Finding the best concealer for oily skin can no doubt be difficult. The criteria for this are quite specific. It has to be long-wearing and withstand the oiliness of your skin. But it also has to have everything else you’d want from a concealer — good coverage that can hide blemishes and a finish that doesn’t highlight the lines under your eyes.
That’s a pretty tall order! But it’s not exactly impossible to get.
What to look for
There’s an abundance of choices on the market — they all claim to be the best concealer for oily skin — so I know how hard it is to choose. But don’t fret! Start by keeping a lookout for these descriptors while perusing the concealer aisle: lightweight, long-wear, waterproof.
If your oily skin happens to be acne-prone too (which is true for most people with excessive oil production), you’re gonna want to add ‘non-comedogenic’ to your list. This means the product promises to not clog your pores, which may lead to a breakout.
In terms of formula, go for a liquid concealer because they’re easier to build. It’s a major plus point if the liquid formula you find is also oil-free and waterproof.
If you prefer a cream formula, though, you can go ahead with one too. Just take note it tends to have move more than liquid concealers; it has the tendency to crease, slip and slide. But there are exceptions to these, of course! So you just have to find one that blends smoothly and seamlessly on your undereye area.
When it comes to the finish, matte or satin work best. If you want a dewy finish, you can still go ahead with it but you may need to take an extra step in preparing your skin so it doesn’t look like an oil slick come mid-day. A mattifying primer may just do the trick!
