What’s been causing a buzz in the big world of beauty lately? Douyin makeup!
I’m sure you’ve already heard of it — or you may have already seen it but just didn’t know that that was it. Either way, if you’re curious about it, here’s everything you need to know — from its origin to which products to use to achieve the look.
What is douyin makeup?
Douyin makeup is inspired by the looks posted on the Douyin app, hence its name. In case you’re unfamiliar, Douyin is China’s answer to TikTok.

It’s a mix of sun-kissed and doll-like looks. Think doe eyes, ultra-blushed cheeks (with a bit of blush on the nose and chin too), and tinted, coquette-ish lips.
Where did douyin makeup originate?
As you may have gathered from what’s above, douyin makeup originated from China. Creators, celebrities and users of the douyin app are the ones who show off their makeup looks and inspire others to do the same.
Douyin makeup tutorials
The look went viral on TikTok, so there are tons of tutorials there, of course. But if you want something a bit more comprehensive, YouTube has it.
This one by Jessica Vu is pretty easy to follow
The doe eyes are an imporant part of the look — it’s one of the things that sets it apart from other looks. So the eyeliner shape you draw on should enable to make your eyes wider; a set of false eyelashes may come in handy too. The eyebrows need to be inspired by K-beauty or just Asian looks in general. No overly arched brows here!
The douyin blush is what makes the look, in my opinion. For this, you’re going to want to dot or draw tiny hearts right above the apples of your cheeks. Yes, even if it goes under your eyes. Dab a little of bit of blush on the tip of your nose. And finish off with the same color on your chin — yes, your chin.
Douyin makeup products
To achieve the douyin makeup look, you’re gonna need just basic products. If you already have a kit, you’re probably already to try out the look!
Douyin Makeup Base
Use your favorite base product that gives your skin a flawless finish. A good skin tint will work too. If you don’t know where to start, I have lists of the best foundations for oily skin and dry skin.
Douyin Makeup Blush
A blush is a must for the douyin look! To get the fresh finish the look is known for, you may opt for a cream blush. Here are some options.

Douyin Eyeshadow
The eye look is pretty simple. You need just a wash of a neutral matte eyeshadow and add shimmer. It’s not too different from the usual eye makeup looks Asians have been sporting for years now. And you can achieve it with just a quad (or even just two eyeshadow colors).

The eyeliner shape and long, wispy lashes are important though. Make sure you ace them with the help of these.

For the lips, a tint is ideal but a glossy liquid lipstick like this one can work too. Here are a couple more options.

Now that you know more about it, will you be trying out the douyin makeup look?
