This K-Beauty Lip Look Is Still On-Trend. Here’s How To Achieve It

how to achieve gradient lips

The Korean gradient lips trend or popsicle lip trend has been around for more than five years now, but it doesn’t show signs of ceasing. We’re not complaining at all! It’s a fun chic look to sport (even with our masks on).

Thanks for the gradient lip inspiration, Rosé!

What are gradient lips?

As the name of the trend suggests, it’s a lip look featuring a color gradation where the darker hue is nearer the opening of the lips and goes lighter along the outer lines.

The look has now spawned different variations as well. And, like anything related to makeup, there are no rules as to the colors or products you should use. But, of course, tips and tricks here and there can help us achieve the exact look we’re aiming for. So, ahead, three different gradient lip looks and how to get them — plus, product recommendations.

Matte gradient lips

If matte is still your go-to for lip product finishes, then this is for you. There are a bunch of ways to do it too.

You can go the concealer route, where you put a concealer along the edges of your lips and blend it till you get a pale color. Then, put the shade you prefer on the inner part of your lips and blend a bit outwards so the gradient is more seamless.

You can also use two matte lipsticks in different colors. Swipe on the paler color first before putting the bolder one and blending it out.

And then there’s also the easy, no-fuss way, which is to use a two-tone lipstick that you just swipe on and blend.

Juicy gradient lips

Want your gradient lips to look juicy? It’s pretty easy. You can do the concealer trick above but instead of a matte lipstick, go for a juicy tint.

There’s also the option of using a lip product made specifically for this type of gradient lip — just apply and blend!

Ombre lips

This one’s a bit more “traditional” as far as gradient lips go, but it’s still undeniably effective in making the lips the center of attention. For this, you’ll need a dark, almost shadow- or contour-like color to outline the lips and a nude or bright color to fill in the rest. Add a gloss on top if you want a juicier pout.
