New Vs. Old Formula: Celeteque Hydration Facial Moisturizer Review

I almost panicked when we ran out of moisturizer while in Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ). We live outside Metro Manila and though we live in a city, we don’t have access to Watsons (I know!). So our choices were slim, but it’s a good thing the Celeteque Hydration Facial Moisturizer was available. I saw a dermatologist recommend this on Twitter, so it must be good, right? So I tested it to find out because as they say in the Asian Beauty Community, YMMV (your mileage may vary).

Packaging, scent, texture

The Celeteque Hydration Facial Moisturizer looks unassuming but packs a punch.

The Celeteque Hydration Facial Moisturizer comes in a tube that looks almost clinical. I love pretty packaging as much as the next person but it’s just a plus and not something I prioritize, so long as the product works well. (Insert age-old adage about what’s inside that matters.) Speaking of which, this has a gel-like texture that’s just right — I’ve tried ones that are lighter but this is just as comfortable for me to wear. It doesn’t have a scent, which I truly enjoy. (I’ve used products that claim to be unscented but still smell of something — this truly smells like nothing).

This moisturizer has a gel-like texture that refreshes.

Application

I use a one peso-sized amount day and night after my cleanser (or serum). It doesn’t get absorbed as fast as you might expect from a gel (because this is quite thick for a gel) but you’ll feel refreshed while rubbing it on using circular motions. I love that it doesn’t leave a sticky feeling; you just really feel fresh and hydrated — like your skin drank water.

Claims, final thoughts

This moisturizer has become my go-to.

The Celeteque Hydration Facial Moisturizer promises to give your skin triple hydration through Glycerin, Pro-Vitamin B5 and aloe vera. Moisture that’s not just on the surface? After using it for more than a month now (I’ve lost count of what day it is in the ECQ), I can say that it delivers on its promises. My skin feels thoroughly hydrated and plump after using it even hours after application. I find that my nose doesn’t oil up as much anymore either. I enjoy using it and will continue to do so until my tube (the 100ml variant, which retails for P250) is emptied. I’ll repurchase as well. This is now my go-to.

UPDATE: I recently learned that the Celeteque Hydration Facial Moisturizer has been reformulated, and some people have been noticing a huge difference between the old formula and the new one.

I was finally able to get a hold of the new formulation and off the bat, there are already a couple of major differences between it and the old formula. The new one is not translucent (you’ll see the texture of the old one below). It also has a fragrance, which smells like something my 60-something mother would prefer (incredibly floral). And the most important difference is the stinging sensation upon application. Not sure what’s causing it (maybe the fragrance but it can also be just the change in the formula). The feeling doesn’t last long, but it’s definitely not something I used to endure when using the old formula. I loved how gel-like and instantly refreshing the old formula was on the skin.

It still moisturizes the skin well but I feel somewhat of a film on top of my skin after application.

I’ve been using it for a couple of weeks now, and I can say that the effect is still similar to the old formula. My skin still feels amply hydrated. But I honestly can’t get past the stinging sensation while applying it. There are definitely other moisturizers on the market that do as good a job without giving that feeling. It’s sad but I will no longer repurchase this moisturizer once I’ve finished my current tube.

    1. Thanks, Mabel! I ordered from Lazada nitong week lang pero yung old stock yung nasend sa kin. Looks like wala pa silang bago, so if you need the older version, Watsons on Lazada is where to go. Pag natapos ko ulit itong tube ko, kuha ako nung reformulated and will update. 🙂
