Here’s Our IKEA Philippines Wishlist + Fast Facts About the Store

We first heard about the opening of IKEA Philippines three years ago. What started as wishful thinking was soon confirmed by the Swedish multinational furniture brand. Now, we finally have an IKEA Philippines opening date in 2021!

When is IKEA opening?

While there is still no definite date, the brand shared as an answer to many comments on Facebook that it’s targeting a Q4 opening, so any day between October and December.

Can you buy IKEA online?

The good news is we can already start shopping online! Yes, the IKEA Philippines online store is now open and ready to deliver! (Check out some of our top picks below.)

Before the site went live, patrons had a taste of what the brand has to offer through its pop-ups. It’s currently at SM Aura (until 3 October only!)

The first leg was at SM Mall of Asia. IKEA items were on full display ahead of the store and e-store opening. It was a good way to see if the items you put on your wishlist look as good in person as they do onscreen. The brand’s planning to set up another pop-up at a different location, so make sure you keep an eye out for that. While waiting, below are a couple of photos from the MoA pop-up!

The brand opened its loyalty club on 7 July. Anyone over the age of 21 and has a valid Philippine mobile number “who wants to make life at home better” can reportedly join the club. Members can earn reward points and special prices for in-store products. They also get to be invited to pre-opening events.

If this sounds like something you want to be part of, check this guide on how to join the IKEA Philippines Family membership program.

Where is IKEA Philippines?

The store here — which will be the brand’s largest in the world at 65,000sqm. or about 1 3/5 as big as the Philippine Arena — is being built in Pasay City, near the SM Mall of Asia.

The first batch of products have been delivered to the store, so it’s now just a matter of waiting.

What to get at IKEA Philippines

And while we’re doing that, we’re also making a wishlist of course. I’m glad to know that IKEA partnered with social enterprise Rags2Riches (R2R). R2R artisans from Payatas, Caloocan, and other parts of Metro Manila will be able to work at R2R’s space in the store, where they will personalize textile products such as pillowcases, curtains, and more.

Aside from availing of the personalization service, here are some of the things we’re eyeing from the store.

Flottebo sofa-bed

We’re due for a sofa upgrade and this Flottebo sofa-bed from Ikea fits not just our style but also our need for extra space for when we’re allowed to have family over again.

Laiva bookcase

We have a rack that looks a bit similar to the Laiva bookcase so it would mesh well with the overall look of our home. Right now, our bookcase is in our home office and it looks bulky and just a bit sad.

I’m looking forward to storing our clothes the proper Konmari way when we get the Trysil chest of drawers.

It’s about time we get a functional mirror that also doubles as an accent piece. This Lindbyn mirror looks quite promising for that.

Barometer floor lamp

A floor lamp would look amazing in the industrial zen home we’re planning for. This Barometer floor/reading lamp would fit just right.
