I’m committing to having no zero days.
These days are harder than most. The uncertainty of the future is even stronger now. Doesn’t everything just make you want to curl up and watch days go by? It truly sounds tempting. But, of course, it’s not something we’d be happy we did, in hindsight.
What are no zero days?
I came across this thread on Reddit via Twitter sometime last week and thought it couldn’t have come at a better time. Basically, the OP said they just don’t care about life in general — no goals, just going with the flow. But there was the desire to change for the better. Another Redditor who goes by the name of Ryan, shared four things the OP should do in order to improve their situation, which includes the now-famous no zero days concept. Here’s how it works, according to him:
A zero day is when you don’t do a single thing towards whatever dream or goal or want or whatever that you got going on. No more zeros… When you’re in the super vortex of being bummed your pattern of behaviour is keeping the vortex goin, that’s what you’re used to. Turning into productivity ultimate master of the universe doesn’t happen from the vortex. It happens from a massive string of CONSISTENT NON ZEROS.

Basically, it’s the idea that you will not get what you want unless you put in the work for it. But it also tackles how consistency in working towards your goal helps — a lot. It doesn’t matter how big or little you get to contribute towards that goal each day, you just have to make sure you chip in.
Why I’m following this system
To say that I was moved by the idea is an understatement. It gave me a renewed way of thinking about my goals and how to achieve them. It’s by no means a novel idea but I think it truly came at the right time. I’ve always made an excuse for not being able to make time for my passion projects because I’m always swamped with work (that I get paid for). I also tend to get short-sighted when it comes to achieving things. So this is a good reminder that valuable things take time to materialize and that they don’t come out of thin air — no matter how much you will them to be.
So from here on out, no zero days for me. I’ve started keeping track of my little progress too. I’ll share in a video soon! How about you? What’s your plan to keep motivating yourself?
