A Few Things I Learned From TikTok

Things I Learned from Tiktok

Like Alice falling down the rabbit hole, I found myself swiping up almost endlessly on TikTok one night. Dear reader, it has now become a habit. I’m glad I’ve found a lot of TikTok hacks while I’m at it.

I’d like to think it’s not similar to mindless scrolling though. I’m proud to have been able to keep my For You page clear of content I have no interest in. Turns out, you can actually have fun on a social media platform and learn from it too.

I’ve had countless epiphanies and aha moments already — just ask my husband. But here are a few of the ones I was able to hit like on the app.

TikTok Hack: Dishwashing liquid for cleaning, well, almost everything

If you already knew of this TikTok hack, why didn’t you tell me? Seriously, though, this was a game-changer for me as someone who always had the mindset of “It’s not clean until you use bleach.” It makes sense that simple dishwashing liquid can clean and also disinfect to an extent, too. We can use soap — not specifically antibacterial soap — on our hands for 20 seconds and we’re good to go.

Pineapples eat you back when you eat them

This one’s not really a TikTok hacks but a good reminder for me to know to stop eating pineapples when I feel my tongue hurt a bit. I know I’ve had too much pineapple when my tongue starts hurting but I didn’t know it was because the pineapple was eating away at my tongue too! The doctor in this TikTok explains it way better than I can.

You can crochet plastic

I don’t know why it never occurred to me but one way you can recycle plastic bags is by crocheting them. I know, I know, big companies are the major culprits for global warming. But I’m still gonna try to do my part — and you should, too, — while keeping these capitalists accountable of course. I’m not sure if I have time to crochet but my family’s already starting a bean bag project with our plastic bags!

I’ll try to make it a habit to like whatever I think is useful so I don’t forget, and I’m really looking forward to learning more TikTok hacks while not spending too much time on it. This led me to realize that you can actually be productive on social media if you tailor it for learning.
