Ready to make your revenge travel plans a reality this year? You’re gonna need the right companion for that — a clamshell luggage. Ha! I’m sure you already have people in mind to bring with you if you’re not traveling solo, so we’re here for more utilitarian reasons.

What is a clamshell luggage?

A clamshell luggage is basically a suitcase that has a single opening. It’s given the name because of how it works the same as nature’s clams. More often than not, these suitcases are made of hard material.

Many clamshell luggages are zipperless. This feature makes them harder to break into. Some luggages made with hard material come with zippers, which can still easily be opened with using just any pointy device.

Zipperless clamshell suitcases are often made with aluminum and polycarbonate. These make them durable from the stress of being thrown here and there before and after the trip.

The promise of being heavy-duty and providing added security does mean shelling out a bit more. But it’s definitely worth the splurge if you’ll be able to use the product for a long, long time.

If you’re more comfortable with zippers though, then go for it! The only things to consider when buying luggage are your traveling style, the suitcase’s longevity and your budget.

As for me, my family’s shared luggage is the Rando from Lojel. We’ve had it for three years now and it works just as great as when we bought it. There are very few scratches on it but it’s definitely serving us well. We’re ready to take it to more trips in the future!
