As our household’s designated cook, I’ve had to be creative in the kitchen, especially during the lockdown period. I’m not a great cook yet but I feel more comfortable whipping things up now, and this Orangey French Toast is one I’m proud to be able to include in my can’t-mess-up list of recipes. It’s always a hit!
If you’re interested to try it, here’s what you’ll need:
- 12 slices of “tasty” bread (or any bread you have in the house)
- 1 cup of mik
- 4 eggs
- 2 tablespoons orange juice
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- a pinch of salt
How to make Orangey French Toast
Start by beating the eggs. Pour in the milk and make sure they’re thoroughly mixed together. Then, put the sugar, salt and orange juice. Mix again then set aside.
Heat up a pan with butter, margarine or vegetable oil — low to medium heat is ideal. (Butter makes everything better but vegetable oil does the trick just as well!) Dip a slice of bread into your mixture (I dip each one two times per side), then place it on the pan. Fry for three minutes per side. Repeat these steps until you’re done. But if you want to take it up a notch, serve it with orange syrup. You’re surely gonna have some leftover orange because the recipe calls for two tablespoons of juice only — that’s not even half an orange. So slice the orange into wedges. Heat up the same pan (or use a different one — your call) pour in half a cup of water, the oranges and two tablespoons of sugar (add more according to taste). Let it simmer in low heat until the liquid thickens. Pour over your stack of french toast. Enjoy!
