“On fleek” may not have been a term I’d casually drop during conversations, but I have fully understood what it means and why there was a strong fascination about Cara Delevingne’s eyebrows in the mid-2010s. Eyebrows frame the face and can even alter your appearance a bit — think: Koreans’ straight brows that make them look everlastingly youthful. Now that we wear masks when going out, putting the focus on the eyes has become the norm. (So, truly, there’s no excuse anymore.)
I still don’t subscribe to the idea of “kilay is life” but I understand it better now and I’m dabbling in that area of the face more than before. My eyebrows need just a tiny bit of grooming, though, so I keep my tools to a minimum and I’m partial to pencils. The latest I’ve tried is the Squad Cosmetics Eyebrow Pencil (P119). Here’s what I think about it.
Packaging and texture
The dual-ended product comes in the brand’s signature peach color. I think it’s worth noting that the caps are not interchangeable — it’s not a big deal; I just found myself putting the wrong lid on the wrong end way too many times haha.
The Squad Cosmetics Eyebrow Pencil is hard enough to give you a steady application but not overly so that it scratches your skin. The pencil has a V shape that’s good for shading but is not be ideal for those who want hair-like strokes.
I picked up the shade in Medium Brown, which is a bit redder than what I usually go for (I lean towards grayish shades) but it turned out to be the right choice because it suited my then freshly colored hair perfectly.
Application and final thoughts
Using the Squad Cosmetics Eyebrow Pencil is quite straightforward, and we all have our own techniques, so I won’t trouble you with a tutorial. What I will say is that I like how this product’s waxy but not overly so. You get the shade you need with some staying power. It’s definitely not waterproof, though, so don’t count on it to remain for an entire day. It won’t budge unless you scratch your brows or tinker with it too much.
Going light and slowly building up is advised for any product, so the same goes for this one. It’s a plus that the spoolie does well in diffusing the color; you get a bit more support in that regard. Removing the product is a breeze, too. I just use my favorite cleansing balm and do my skincare routine as usual.
If you’re just starting out with makeup or you want something that’s easy on the pocket for every day use, this one’s a good option.
