Review: Does Nono’s *Really* Do Comfort Food Right?

nono's review

Note: This Nono’s review was written a year or so ago. We’d eaten for a third time and found the experience to be incredibly lackluster. The adobo tasted of raw soy sauce, like more was added at the last minute. It could’ve been a bad day. Maybe we need to give it another chance. But we’ve not been back since.

We’d passed by Nono’s several times in multiple occasions before we finally took a shot and gave it a try this year. Hype is what deters us from trying things out. Was it a good idea that we took the plunge for Nono’s? Read on to find out.

Nono’s menu

Nono’s tagline is ‘Comfort food done right.’ The definition of ‘comfort food’ is quite personal, of course. But what Nono’s offers is a variety of the more ‘popular’ comfort foods — from fried chicken and waffles to sisig.

You can check out their full menu here.

Nono’s price

The prices range from 175 (Butter and Parmesan Pasta on the kids’ menu) to P1,385 (a big plate of Garlic Steak with Mushrooms). It’s not too different from many joints in Metro Manila, and it’s also definitely still cheaper than Mary Grace. If you want drinks and dessert to go with meals for two people, you can set your budget to P1,500.

Nono’s branches

There are plenty of Nono’s branches in Metro Manila (from UP Town Center to Okada in Parañaque) but only one outside (Nuvali in Sta. Rosa, Laguna).

Nono’s review

We tried the one in Nuvali (two times now) and we had a generally great experience. The food was amazing! We kept saying, ‘Wow, this is why this place is always packed when we pass by.’

The chicken and waffles are a must-try if you’re a bit unsure of what to get. But don’t mistake it as safe choice because it truly is delightful. Imagine properly seasoned, crispy chicken with waffles — but their waffles are unlike any we’ve had before. They’re a bit thin but still packed with flavor.

Their pastas are great too, though we were looking for a bit more kick from the spicy shrimp. The pesto pasta was a bit on the creamier side but still delightfully herby.

nono's desserts

The desserts are marvelous! You can definitely go there and just get desserts.
The only reason why we feel it was just generally good was the staff looked quite overworked. There were only maybe four waiting staff when we visited and the branch in Nuvali is huge. The service was still good but more people to split the load with would be nice.

In all, we enjoyed both times we ate at Nono’s. We think you get what you pay for, in a really good way… well, until our last visit.
