Is Shopback Legit? Here’s an In-Depth Review on the Cashback Service

shopback review

You may have seen one of the brand’s ads and wondered, ‘Is Shopback legit?’

I’ve been using it for a couple of years now, and I’m here to tell you everything you need to know about it based on my experience. But first…

What is Shopback?

Shopback is a site and app that help people earn cash back when they shop online.

How does it work?

You just have to create an account on their site or app. Before you go shopping, go to the Shopback website and look for the platform you prefer there. Say you want to shop on Lazada. Head to the Shopback site or app first, then look for Lazada. You will be redirected to the shopping platform and your purchase will be tracked.

Each site has different offers. There are also promotions every so often, which give you more chances of earning more cashback.

Does it really work and how do you make money from it?

The short answer is yes. It’s more of a way to ‘save’ when shopping, but the savings depend on where you shop and how much you purchase.

I try to make it a habit to open the app first before I order anything. The apps I frequent are Lazada and Shopee so I can only comment on my experiences from these sites.

From what I’ve noticed, Lazada offers more cashback than Shopee. I’ve ordered some items through it in the past and got more than 10 pesos cashback for each of the items. There are purchases that gave me only cents in cashback though, so it really depends on what you buy and how much the item is.

A comparison of Shopback transactions for purchases through Lazada and Shopee
I haven’t made a lot on it just because I don’t really shop a lot. I only usually buy beauty and personal care stuff at Watsons on Lazada. There are also the odd makeup purchases every now and then. Shopping for clothing items is done even more sparingly since I still want to commit to my 95% ukay wardrobe, though I do buy clothes for our daughter every couple of months.

The bigger contributor to my ‘earnings’ made through purchases is Food Panda. But I’d say I’ve earned most through my affiliate link.

You have the option to refer a friend and you both get a bonus of P100 cashback. But one thing to note is that the reward isn’t given real-time. Your friend has to make a purchase using Shopback and link to where they want to withdraw their earnings before the P100 is released.

The earnings you get from your purchases are added to your wallet in real-time, but they aren’t confirmed right away. Some take 75 days to confirm your purchase, others take 100.

The wait may make you feel discouraged, but really, you’re not putting out any more money when you avail of the service. So there’s really no investment in your part except a bit of patience.

And, yes, you do earn from it. I’ve already withdrawn ~P3,200 from it. The earnings may not come regularly but it feels like free money when it actually comes.

How do you cash out?

There are several options for cashing out your Shopback earnings, though I’ve only used GCash for mine (which I paid for online purchases as well, but I’m looking to invest my earnings now through GInvest). If you don’t have a GCash account, you may also withdraw your earnings through PayPal and a local bank. Below is the list of supported banks.

  • Banco De Oro
  • Bank of the Philippine Islands
  • China Bank
  • East West Bank
  • Metrobank
  • Philippine National Bank
  • Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation
  • Security Bank
  • Unionbank
  • UCPB

Final thoughts

If you shop online a lot, I suggest you download Shopback and take advantage of the service. There’s really nothing to lose!
